GB WhatsApp is a modified version of the standard WhatsApp application created by third-party developers who were seeking to include more features on WhatsApp. What makes the app so attractive is the features it has that have been asked for by WhatsApp users for a long time like uploading a status for a longer duration than 30 seconds.

A look at the features and their differences.

In terms of interface, installation, sending and receiving messages, GB WhatsApp and WhatsApp are nearly identical. The only difference between them is that the GB WhatsApp has more hacks and features.

Customization

GB WhatsApp is far ahead when it comes to customization giving you the ability to change the app according to what you feel like. You can change the in-app fonts, change how the double tick looks, and how the chat bubbles look. The app even allows you to change the way your contact tabs look like. Another cool feature is changing the colour of the icon appearing on your app tray to a different colour.

The standard WhatsApp app doesn’t give options for customization. The only features close to customization are the dark and light themes.

Privacy

GB WhatsApp gives you options for privacy like hiding your read receipts, conceal a grey double tick that shows the message was delivered, an option in the app which will show you are online for 24 hours even if you have not kept the app open, WhatsApp GB hides your name and the time when you copy more than one message from chat, hide your last seen for a specific list of contacts and set alerts for when one of your contacts changes their profile name.

The standard WhatsApp app offers a few privacy options like hiding your read receipts, your last seen for all contacts, hiding your profile photo.

Multimedia

GB WhatsApp has the option where you can send up to 90 images and audio files up to 100 MB in one go. You can also download someone’s status without the use of a third-party app. The video limit allows you to share up to 50 MB in size. You can also share a status of up to 7 minutes.

The original WhatsApp app has a limit to only sharing 30 images and a maximum of 16 MB video files at once. This app also lets you share a status of only 30 seconds.

Add passcode to your messages

WhatsApp GB allows you to add a passcode to your personal chats and keep them safe while the normal WhatsApp app requires a third-party app to enable this function.

Anti-revoke

This is one of the most interesting features available on GB WhatsApp. It allows you to see a message that has been deleted by a user after they had initially sent it.

However, on the original WhatsApp application, one cannot see deleted messages.

Another difference is the message scheduler. This feature is extremely helpful for users who would like to send wishes to their friends at a specific time. You can set the date and time and message and select the receipts you want to send the message. It is only available on GB WhatsApp however.

GB WhatsApp concerns

Fun as it seems, this app comes at a great cost which could be one’s privacy and security. GB WhatsApp uses the source code from the WhatsApp app, but without an official license. That means there is no way to verify whether the software is safe and free from viruses or malware.

The original WhatsApp application offers end-to-end encryption which means that neither WhatsApp itself nor anyone else can get access to your messages. This is something that cannot be guaranteed with GB WhatsApp. It is recommended that the app should not be used for any official communication just to stay on the safe side.
