Airtel Uganda has unveiled the first-ever ‘Airtel Money Mastercard’ in collaboration with Mastercard. The card is a virtual debit card which means it’s non-plastic.
The card is created to allow Airtel Money customers to make payments to local and global online merchants even those that don’t have bank accounts. The customers will get access to merchants that accept Mastercards like GooglePlay, Amazon, Alibaba, Uber, Netflix, and Ali Express.

Customers will enjoy all the benefits that come with owning debit cards like being assured that their financial data is secure and private that is, it cannot be accessed by third parties without the permission of the cardholders.
The cards will also allow them to make in-person payments by scanning Quick Response (QR) codes at outlets where master QR codes are allowed or by entering a merchant identifier at any merchant location.
All these benefits just go-ahead to show how innovations these days are looking at new ways to create convenience.
A bonus is the maximum charge of UGX1000 on all transactions which makes the card affordable to use.

You can get the Airtel Money Mastercard in two ways that are through a USSD code or the MyAirtel app.
With a USSD code, you just follow these easy steps.
Dial *185*7#
Select option 9, ‘Airtel Money Mastercard’
Select ‘Get a Card’ and follow the instructions.
You’ll receive an SMS with details to transact online
How to get the Airtel Money Mastercard using MyAirtel App.
Select AirtelMoney
Enter your pin
Select ‘Mastercard’ Get Card option
Re-enter your pin. A virtual card will be created in your name.
After getting your card, it is attached to your AirtelMoney wallet so the balance on your Airtel Money account will be the same one that reflects on the card.
Take note that the card can be deleted at any time the owner chooses and a new one can be created at one’s convenience.
