Valentine’s Day is almost here and the singles are probably looking for fun ways to occupy themselves on that day. Well, if you are in the mood for a little adventure where you could meet strangers that turn into partners then here are some dating apps you should check out. Most of them are based in countries outside Uganda but they offer features for finding people within your location so the possibilities are endless.

You’ve probably seen the ads when using some apps. It is A great website where people can chat, date and meet with people online from any part of the world. On the free plan, users can chat, upload photos and post videos.
- ‘People Nearby’ feature lets users see and contact people who are in their location.
- ‘Search’ feature lets users contact people in a different part of the world.
- ‘Encounters’ is another free feature where users swipe right (yes) or left (no) on other users’ profiles. If there is a match, the two users get notified.
- A Video Chat function is available for users to connect and exchange messages.
Tinder is one of the most popular dating sites world over. Many people think of it as a site for hooking up but it’s actually more than that. It’s a great site for people who are interested in something permanent too. It allows users to swipe anonymously as they scroll through profiles they like or dislike basing on their pictures, bio and interests.
- It has the ‘Swipe’ feature where you swipe right if you’re interested in someone’s profile and left if you still need to check out more profiles.
- The ‘Messaging’ feature works once you’ve been matched with someone.
- And the cool ‘Instagram’ feature where users can access each other’s Instagram profiles sparing you the trouble of having to ask for someone’s Instagram handle.
- ‘Tinder gold’ which is available on its premium plan lets users see when someone has liked their picture before swiping.
Tinder has over a billion users worldwide and available in over 40 languages making it easier to find a match from such a wide pool.
Bumble is another cool dating app that matches users based on location. Unlike the other dating apps, we are accustomed to, Bumble is quite unique. For heterosexual matches, only women can make the first move after being matched with a man. The situation is different for same-sex matches where either person can make the first move after being matched.
Just like Tinder, you swipe right for yes and swipe left for no. It has a BFF mode for people that just need to ne the app to make new friends. Yu are required to send a message within the first 24 hours after being matched to a potential friend.
- Users on the app sort conversations, favorite messages they are interested in and send photo messages.
- It also has a backtrack feature where you simply shake your phone to undo an accidental left swipe that is when you scroll past someone’s profile you might have been interested in.
- The snooze feature will let you pause activity on the app for as long as you like.
OkCupid is a site for people to meet and date or simply make new friends. A mere look at its login picture and you can tell that it’s a free space for all gender identities.
It matches users using multiple-choice questions. This is great for people who are picky because your responses help narrow down to your exact match.
The messaging feature is quite cool making users feel safe. You can’t receive messages from anyone unless you have matched. The only downside of this is you don’t get the chance to interact with other people unless you match.
Zoosk is a great online dating site and app. Unlike OkCupid where you have to fill in those tedious questionnaires, Zoosk will get you your match by simply using the information on the profiles from your social media accounts and then integrates it into your Zoosk account.
The app basically looks at whose pictures you’re liking or someone you’re messaging and will set them up for you as a great match.
You can also go a bit deeper with settings for height, religion, relationship history, body type, children, ethnicity, education, and smoking preferences all in the mix. Even if you have the pickiest specifications, the platform has someone in mind for you.
There are thousands if not hundreds of dating apps and sites available worldwide, these are just a few that were chosen for reasons like location features that will let you find people anywhere around the world. It was, however, difficult to find any great sites to recommend within Uganda that is why there are no locally based apps included here.
