Ninja Accelerator Uganda

Japan International Corporation (JICA) in partnership with The Innovation Village, Hive Collab and Outbox has launched Ninja Accelerator Uganda to provide fundraising and/or business development opportunities, for start-ups in the Ugandan ecosystem.

Who can apply?

Target audience: First-of-its-kind accelerator designed especially for businesses with market traction and earning above $50,000 per year in revenue, although exceptions apply;

  • Startups registered in Uganda
  • Early or growth-stage startups. Ideas will not be accepted
  • Startups that have been in operation for at least one year
  • Startups that have an economically viable business model
  • Demonstrate a strong promise of building a sustainable and impactful business
  • Diverse and focused leadership team with at least one team member with strong sector expertise.

Advisor sessions – Businesses can seek advice from advisors within the industry

Business support – Includes feedback on the product and a better understanding of sector issues

Mentorship sessions – A strong network of mentors who provide advice on topics such as; marketing, scaling, legal issues, business strategy, and pitching to partners

UNBS seeks to hire a Senior IT Officer.

Some of the key Duties and Responsibilities include:

Provide technical expertise and recommendations in assessing new IT software projects and initiatives to support and enhance UNBS developed systems.

Identify opportunities that can improve the efficiency of business processes.

Coordinate application development for multiple projects.

Assist in troubleshooting software application issues.

Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements.

Analyze data contained in the corporate database and identify data integrity issues with existing and proposed systems and work with the development team to implement solutions.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The applicant for the UNBS Senior ICT Officer – System Analyst job opportunity should hold a post-graduate qualification in ICT related field from a recognized University/InstitutionPossession of Honours degree in either Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer or Software Engineering from a recognized University/Institution.

At least five years of IT experience with at least 3 years’ exposure to systems analysis work.

Extensive knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, and enterprise software applications.

Technical experience with systems networking, databases, Web development, and user support.

Experience in relational database design in Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Oracle etc.

Fundi Bots

Fundi Bots seeks to hire a Communications Associate. The Communications Associate will provide support for internal and external communication between Fundi Bots and its partners, beneficiaries and other actors.

The position will also take lead on developing and implementing information and communication strategies to engage internal and external stakeholders on Fundi Bots activities in Central, Western, Eastern and Western Uganda. The Communications Associate will work closely with the Executive Director, departments and regional offices to collate, analyse, tailor and share communication information and messages for various audiences.

Some of the duties include

  • Work with the Executive Director, managers and program leads to develop, improve and implement the Fundi Bots communication strategy, ensuring internal communication policies and protocols are appropriately implemented.
  • Act as a focal point for communications with Fundi Bots partners.
  • Provide leadership in ensuring all actors are aligned towards communications and branding guidelines.
  • Work with various teams within the organization to collect and develop communications materials (e.g. media stories, photographs, video footage for external news outlets and social media) to maintain visibility via earned media and across Fundi Bots digital channels.
  • Lead the creation of communication materials, content, and products on behalf of the Fundi Bots (e.g. fact sheets, case studies, PowerPoints, graphics, social media content, and newsletters) aimed at raising awareness about our programs with key stakeholders.

Some of the required qualifications include;

  • At least 2 years of relevant communications experience with 1 year of work experience with a non-profit organization or social enterprise in a similar role
  • Experience in collecting and developing content from the field, producing compelling communications materials and working with media.
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in a multi- cultural environment with colleagues and partners.
  • Fluency in English with strong writing skills.
  • Solid organizational skills, an ability to be flexible and work well under pressure, dealing with competing priorities, in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Detail-oriented and good multi-tasking abilities to meet multiple deadlines.
