NIRA website grants access to more essential services

Even as lockdown restrictions have been eased according to the President’s address, organizations that provide essential services such as (NIRA) National Identification Registration Authority continue to avail more of their services online. This is just another display of the digital shift caused by the pandemic that has led to a lot of uncertainty.

This shift allows citizens to get 24-hour access to services in a shorter period of time compared to the manual way of providing services. As we have all been made aware, it is a gradual process as they grant online access to essential services via the NIRA website. Physical visits at the offices will no longer be required in order for one to get access to them.

Citizens can now access the following services online via the NIRA website under the Services menu:

  1. Confirmation of National Identification Numbers (NINs)
  2. Letters of Confirmation of Information
  3. Tracking Status of Applications

Confirmation of Information on the NIRA website

A step by step guide to apply for confirmation of information letter online.

1.Visit nira.go.ug. Under the key services on the home page, go to ‘Confirmation of information’. Enter your NIN.

2.Click generate PRN and you will see a 13 digit number. Use this number to pay UGX 1000 to URA through mobile money. After the payment is made, enter the PRN in the required field.

3.Preview the letter. If the letter is satisfactory, you can choose to send it online or to download and print. You can only use this PRN once for one transaction.

Once you choose to download the letter, you will have to generate and pay PRN for another transaction.

Recently, a guide was released that can assist people during the process of making changes to different particulars. The guide shows how one can make changes to details like gender, age, date of birth and more errors that they might find on documents and national IDs.

The NIRA Uganda toll-free number

Citizens can also access information about services through the NIRA Uganda toll-free number. It is 0800211700 and is available during working hours.

By dialling *216# you can know all the NIRA procedures free of charge including requirements for National ID registration, Replacement of lost or defaced ID, where to pick your National ID from, NIN retrieval among others.
