Netflix

The Mitchell vs The Machines

The Mitchells vs The Machines follows a dysfunctional family that goes on one last road trip in an attempt to bond before the oldest daughter goes off to college. However, there’s one problem – they wind up having to save Earth from a robot uprising instead. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, produced the movie, which features the voices of Maya Rudolph, Eric Andre, Fred Armisen, and Olivia Colman.

Yasuke

Yasuke is a film loosely based on the historical figure of the same name, which follows an African warrior (voiced in English by LaKeith Stanfield) in 16th-century Japan. Yasuke has retired to a remote village and put his life as the “Black Samurai” behind him – before he decides to accompany a sick girl and her mother to a special doctor and finds himself embroiled in a power struggle and dark supernatural powers.

Rocketman

Rocketman is based on the life of Elton John and follows him as a brilliant student at the Royal Academy of Music and as an adult, played by Taron Egerton, during his musical collaboration with lyricist Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell). For his performance, Egerton won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Stephen Graham also featue in the film.

Amazon Prime

Without Remorse

Without Remorse, a recent spin-off of the Jack Ryan film series, features Michael B. Jordan in full action hero mode. He plays John Kelly, a Navy SEAL who sets out to avenge his pregnant wife’s murder only to discover an international plot and find himself torn between personal honor and country allegiance. Jodie Turner-Smith, Jamie Bell, and Guy Pearce are among the film’s impressive supporting cast, and it was released exclusively on Amazon Prime.

Disney Plus

Marvel Studios: Assembled – The Making of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

While The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s finale has already aired, the fun isn’t over yet: the new episode of Marvel Studios: Assembled takes you behind the scenes of the MCU broadcast. If the previous episode on WandaVision is any indication, we should expect an hour of exclusive on-set footage detailing how Disney shot all of the series’ action-packed scenes.

Nomadland

On our list of the best new movies and shows to stream this weekend, we have Nomadland. It follows Fern (Frances McDormand), a woman who abandons her hometown after her husband dies and she loses her job in order to live a nomadic life in a van, complete with all the hardships that entails. The supporting cast includes real-life nomads who play fictionalized versions of themselves, in addition to David Strathairn.
